Hello!
Went to dance concert yesterday and it was awesome! So i came back around 1030pm and I WASNT DONE WITH MY HISTORY PT WHICH IS WORTH 25% OF MY GRADE OKAY so i got really really really stressed out and i did my PT till 1 and woke up at 530. Tired much. Anyway i'm screwed. I don't care anymore so, if anyone even bothers to read this shet, here: Its supposed to be writing a letter to your successor to instruct him on how to continue with the Golden Age. I want to cry.
Dear Successor,
The role as Emperor is one of power and prominence. The Empire has
flourished during my reign. There has been much prosperity and stability, and
also many artistic, scientific and cultural developments. I am writing this
letter to advise you and give you guidelines on how to continue contributing to
the rise of the empire.
Maintaining peace is one of the roles of an emperor. During my
reign, Parthia and Rome were about to come to war but the war was averted after
I successfully negotiated a peace deal. Hence the citizens of the empire were
spared of much loss and inconvenience. When there is peace, citizens of the
empire can pursue cultural and intellectual interests and make developments in
these areas. If you do not maintain peace in the Empire, developments cannot be
made efficiently. The empire will not rise quickly or may decline.
The Roman Empire currently has a very stable military. I did not expand Rome’s territory, and in fact
I changed Trajan’s policy to non-expansion. Even though I have not had any
conquests, other empires have not conquered Rome. Despite the lack of military
conflicts, you have to keep the army alert and not allow them to become
complacent. Complacency would give them a false sense of security and cause us
to lose battles, which will lead to the decline of the empire. I often made
false reports of attacks just to keep the army on its feet and I feel you
should do the same. Next, ensure that military training is vigorous, but also
empathize with the men and ensure that they are looked after. I used to eat and
sleep with the army to experience what the men were going through and to show
that I cared about their quality of life. Hence, they will feel more
significant. When they understand that each and every one of them has a
significant role to play in defending the empire, the men will probably be more
confident and committed in defending the empire. You also have to recruit more
men and build a stronger military in terms of numbers. On a trip to Cyrene, I
provided funds for the training of young men there and recruited them in the
Roman military. Next, you have to be strategic in organizing the troops and
exercise leadership skills. The men have gone through vigorous training and are
competent in defending the empire, but they cannot do so unless you lead them
well and plan ahead during an attack. Lastly, keep the limes well maintained as
the limes defends the empire and prevents armies from other countries from
invading.
Next, the emperor is to establish positive ties with other
countries. If Rome and another country have negative relations, Rome and the
other country will be hostile towards each other and not much trade or exchange
of ideas will occur between the two countries, slowing down the development and
economy of Rome. Positive ties will encourage the exchange of technological,
cultural, religious and artistic innovations, and exchange of ideas. For
example, Greeks taught Romans how to grow grapes and olives. This has helped
Rome in terms or agriculture. I advise you to travel often and learn about
other countries’ practices and innovations. I spent most of my reign outside of
Rome, travelling and learning about the world beyond Rome. With the exchange of
ideas and the presence of trade, the economy will prosper and there will be
spare money to spend on developing the empire. Also, Hadrian’s Wall will
provide control over trade and customs, and is a good opportunity for taxation.
The money collected from taxation and trade can be saved to spend
on facilities which contribute to the learning and discoveries made by
citizens. In fact, I changed Trajan’s policy to non-expansion as I felt it
would have been too expensive to develop the land that was conquered during his
reign. The money could be put to better use by developing the existing empire. I
have set up libraries which aid research and theaters which promote literature,
but much more can be done to support the development of arts and sciences. I
have ordered the construction of temples and have also rebuilt the Pantheon, which
is a temple for the worship of Roman gods. Since the completion of
construction, much cultural development can be made. The construction of these
facilities will contribute to the rise of the empire. If citizens do not have
support from the emperor in arts and sciences, it is hard for them to discover
more and developments made are limited.
An open society is essential in developing the empire. An open
society means that people accept other peoples’ beliefs and mindsets. Ensure
that citizens are receptive to others’ ideas by setting a good example to them.
Take all ideas into consideration. All ideas have potential and when built
upon, brilliant innovations can be made. These innovations will lead to the
rise of the empire. If the society is not receptive to all kinds of ideas, many
ideas that have great potential will be excluded and less innovations and
developments will be made. The Empire will not rise quickly and may decline.
To summarize, continuing the rise of the empire requires the
emperor to keep peace, to lead the army wisely, to be receptive to ideas, to
manage the empire’s finances well so as to build facilities to support learning
and development, and to establish positive ties with other countries so as to
have exchange of ideas and trade.
