Yay! Only have geog PT left to do :'D My narrative is finally done. It's okay i guess, but I HATE THE WORD LIMIT. Everyones desperately trying to cut off like HALF of their story now. So in an effort to have a proper resolution i made the dog die of sadness cos dying is alays the best way to completely end a story. haha.
Lost
Emanating a sense of fear, the house loomed before me, cast in silhouette
by the setting sun. To my chagrin, Meggie ushered me into the small kennel on
the dry yard. Her eyes were apologetic.
“Sorry, Almond,” she said. “Dad doesn’t like you in the house.”
After Meggie had left me to my
own devices, I fell asleep.
Hearing aggravated shouts coming from the house, I perked up. Only the
noise there pierced the silence of the placid night.
“You’re giving the meat to that mutt? We can barely afford food, much
less meat during this drought!” That was the brutish man. I growled, vexed.
“But you never agree to buying dog food, Dad...” Meggie protested.
“Does money grow on trees?” He bellowed.
I must defend my distressed master! I thought, resolute.
Bursting in through the old dog flap, I barked frenziedly. The man
turned his irate eyes on me. With a deft swing of his leg, he kicked me sharply
in the belly. I hit the adjacent wall hard before scurrying out the door in
terror.
About an hour later, the main door opened falteringly. Meggie crept out,
ensuring that she did not wake her father up. She placed a slab of meat in my bowl
and filled my water dish. I clambered onto her lap. As she tenderly rubbed my
sore belly, I closed my eyes peacefully. Thank you, Master, I thought. I will
be faithful to you forever. You can count on me.
That same night, I awoke, disturbed by a perpetual crackling noise. I
shuffled out of the kennel, itching to see what was going on.
Smoke billowed out of the windows. Flames licked the sides of the walls.
Part of the roof had collapsed. I could feel the scorching heat on my fur. My
master needed me!
Neither Meggie nor her father could be found in the raging inferno. I hurtled along the long dirt road to the
nearest town. I had to find help!
I barked incessantly on the street for hours, trying to catch attention.
Eventually I did- uniformed men trapped me in a cage and shoved me into a van
that said “Dog Control”. They drove me away, further from my master. Aggrieved,
I scrabbled helplessly at the cage door.
That was what seemed like a long time ago. I blink the memory out of my
sullen eyes. “Up for Adoption”, the sign on the other side of the glass panel
says. I loll onto my side lethargically. I miss my master and our long walks.
Is she still alive? What have I to live for now? I am feeling a searing pain in
my chest as I struggle to breathe. Strangely, the room is turning colder and
colder. I close my eyes. Suddenly I am taking that long walk with Meggie on
that familiar dirt road again. An inexplicable wave of serenity washes over me.
I feel my body drifting; and everything turns black.
